Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign

In every State, it’s illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, yet one person is killed in a drunk-driving crash every 53 minutes in the United States. The Wilton Manors Police Department (WMPD) is partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and other local law enforcement agencies to stop drunk drivers and help save lives. Throughout the holiday season WMPD will be participating in the high-visibility national enforcement campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

During this period, Officers will show zero tolerance for drunk driving in an effort to educate the community about the dangers of driving impaired while having an increase of Police presence on our roadways. This campaign is aimed to drastically reduce drunk driving not only on our City’s roads but nationwide, all while saving lives.

According to NHSTA, on average, over 10,000 people have died each year (2010 to 2014) in drunk-driving crashes and nighttime proves to be the most dangerous time to be out on the roads. Approximately one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers (with blood alcohol concentrations of .08 or higher). In 2014, there were 9,967 people killed in these preventable crashes. Of the 9,967 people killed in drunk-driving crashes in 2014, 64 percent were the drunk drivers themselves.

WMPD encourages all drivers to be more responsible drivers every time they get behind the wheel.

Before you drink and drive always designate a sober driver, call a taxi, or make alternate plans on getting home safely. But whatever you do, DO NOT drink and drive.

If you are in The City of Wilton Manors and have become impaired due to drinking, you can also call Westway Towing at 954-731-1115 and request to have you and your vehicle towed to your home. The service is free for the first 5 miles and only $2.50 each additional mile after that. No hookup fee will be charged, no matter the distance. If you choose to drink and drive, the Officers from WMPD will see you before you see them. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Always have a plan when you consume alcohol to ensure everyone arrives safely. Additionally, help us decrease the number of fatalities caused by impaired driving. If you SEE SOMEONE DRIVING IMPAIRED, SAY SOMETHING by contacting the Wilton Manors Police Department at (954) 764 – HELP (4357) for Non-Emergency/Broward Regional Dispatch or 9-1-1 for Emergencies.

From our family to yours we wish you a happy and safe Holiday season.
