On a beautiful evening in mid-January, Mickel Park emerged from its chrysalis into a brand new butterfly! After a three month renovation, the City Commission cut the ribbon on about a half million dollars worth of new features.
Thanks to County Commissioner Tim Ryan, the City received about $350,000 for new LED lights for the ballfields, a splash pad and a new playground for school aged children. Additional funding from the state allowed for a shade structure.
Mickel has something for everyone, with a walking path, exercise equipment, ball fields, playground, splash pad, pavilion, stage and more. It's a great place for a birthday party or picnic, and is host to the Music at Mickel concert series the third Friday of the month through April. It is also home to an exercise boot camp as well as several other recreational programs.
